Meadow Update: Unity 6.3 Support + New Features

The sun is shining, the first flowers are blooming, and the latest version of Meadow is now up on both app stores — bringing full support for Unity 6.3.

We will soon make this the minimum version of Meadow, meaning users on older versions will need to upgrade. Make sure to update your projects to work on the latest version.

As a reminder, here are the steps:

1. Check if your experience works on 1.4. If it does, no need to update. (Breaking changes in Unity 6.3 are mainly related to VFX Graph, Shader Graph and UI Documents.)

2. Download Unity 6.3.x

3. Open your Unity project in this version

4. Upload your experience to Meadow

5. Check that everything is working

New features and updates

When we did the upgrade, we took the opportunity to add some new features and improvements across the platform:

🛠️ AR Tools page

We now have a dedicated AR tools page where we'll add commonly used tools for creating experiences. Find it in the app under Profile > Settings > Tools.

⚓️ Cloud Anchor Manager

Place, test and update Cloud Anchors for your experiences. Cloud Anchors are saved snapshots of the AR world map that make it possible to create persistent indoor experiences. Perfect if you are creating an indoor game for a specific location that you want to appear in the same place for all users.

🎥 Metavido Recorder

A recorder tool for Metavido, Keijiro's volumetric video format, for recording 3D video. This looks really special in AR, and can of course be used outside of Meadow as well. We've added an audio recording option — try recording a live gig and make a permanent virtual record of it.

Metavido recorder only works on iPhones with a LiDAR camera

🤖 AI Nodes

We've added specific nodes for each major LLM provider, so now you can easily implement AI in your experiences. Imagine this for virtual pets or for powering NPCs in an urban strategy game where you need to collect clues by convincing the AI of your pure intentions...

We made a little example project — check it out below, download the project file to see how it's set up, or read the manual page.

Did you know that you can upload a project package for your experience, so others can download it and use it as a template? Upload it in Assets > Project Package, and download it with the “Download Project” button.

🎨 UI & UX Polish + Minor Additions

• You can now sort experiences by name or creation date in your profile and collection views – finally!
  

• Two nodes for getting info about a user, such as profile pic and bio, to use in your experiences (manual page).
  

• Updated Plane Manager workflow. For experiences with Vertical Placement set to Floor and reposition set to none, Plane Manager is now turned off after instantiation to conserve resources. To keep it on, toggle Plane Manager in the AR settings.
  

• Wall placement mode — in Vertical Placement there is now a Wall mode that places the experience on a point on the wall in front of the user.

  
  

  
  

Recent Meadow Highlights

De älskande (The Lovers) by Amy Boulton

A site-specific artwork based on a story of forbidden queer love in turn-of-the-century Stockholm. The work is an extension of a stone sculpture inspired by two women whose actual relationship was obscured due to the prejudices of the time. Through AR, Amy frees these sculpted women from both the stillness of stone and their erased story, and lets them finally be seen as lovers rather than sisters.

A quiet act of digital re-memorialisation that points at an interesting aspect of this technology: how it can add new meaning to existing public artworks.

Go see it in person if you pass by Mosebacke in Stockholm.

Blocks at Large, by Jakob Skote

Jakob Skote, one of our Meadow co-founders, created a prototype for a sculpture built from wood and pixels for the Campfire Conference at Skövde University.

Blocks at Large consists of 10 wooden blocks roughly chainsawed out of white poplar, with black tracking codes hand-painted on each face. Each physical block is connected to a digital twin, 20x larger, seen in augmented reality. As you move a block, you simultaneously rearrange a virtual public artwork on the square outside the conference venue.
